Proflight Zambia Flies International

According to eturbonews, Proflight Zambia celebrated its first international scheduled air service from Luskaka, Zambia, to Lilongwe, Malawi, earlier this week.
 Flights to the Malawian capital depart from Lusaka at 15h30 and arrive in Lilongwe at 17h10. The return flights leave Lilongwe on the same days at 17h55, arriving back in Lusaka at 19h35.
The timing is designed to provide smooth connections to and from the Emirates flights from Lusaka to Dubai, which arrive in Lusaka from Dubai at 14h25 and depart from Lusaka for Dubai at 21h25 daily.
 Return fares from Lusaka to Lilongwe start from around KR2,000 (approximately R3,000) and will initially operate with Proflight’s 29-seater Jetstream 41 aircraft.

New Airline Set to Launch in Zambia

 According to eturbonews, a new airline is expected to start up in Zambia, competing with Proflight, the only airline currently providing flights within Zambia. Makuba Airlines is allegedly being set up by Zambian expats and locals. The plan is that the airline will be operational before the United Nations World Tourism Organisation general assembly, which will be co-hosted by Zimbabwe and Zambia in August. The two planes that will be used initially include a Turbo Prop ATR 42-500 and an ATR 72-500, which will be maintained by Air Botswana. The ATR 42 has a carrying capacity of 48, whilst the ATR can carry 72. Chairman of the company, Mwansa Chalwe, said the project has been meticulously planned and he hoped that the company will turn around the domestic flight market by making air travel more affordable.

KQ to fly to Zimbabwe

According to eturbonews.co, Kenya Airways will be launching flights to Livingstone, Zambia, in June, and then routing on to Harare, Zimbabwe. The available schedule pegs the operations between 2 June until initially 25 October, but if successful might extend further beyond that date. The aircraft that will service the route will be an Embraer 190E.

Ethiopian Expands African Network

 According to eturbonews.com, Ethiopian Airlines has announced further expansion, with new flights to Blantyre, Malawi, and Ndola, Zambia, starting 31 March. Blantyre, the commercial and industrial capital of Malawi, will be Ethiopian’s 44th destination in Africa, with a new schedule of three flights per week. Ndola will be Ethiopian's 45th African and 72nd international destination, but its second destination in Zambia next to Lusaka. “Ethiopian, as a flagship carrier of Africa, is pleased to add Blantyre and Ndola to its wide route network, and to offer passengers to and from these cities the best possible connectivity through its Addis Ababa hub,” said Tewolde Gebremariam, CEO of Ethiopian Airlines. Passengers travelling to and from Blantyre and Ndola will enjoy connections to destinations on Ethiopian Airlines' route network, such as Washington, DC, Toronto, London, Hong Kong and Dubai, among others.

Carlson Rezidor Opens Lusaka Hotel

Carlson Rezidor has opened its first hotel in Zambia. The 142-room Radisson Blu Hotel, Lusaka is the group’s 22nd hotel in operation in Africa and brings Carlson Rezidor’s total African portfolio of properties in operation and under development to 48 hotels with 10,889 rooms.
Carlson Rezidor has plenty in the pipeline and future openings include Radisson Blu hotels in Maputo (Mozambique), Nairobi (Kenya), Luanda (Angola), and Kigali (Rwanda).
